Sometimes I feel like life is like a whole season of Amazing Race.
While we were still babies, people could not wait for us to take that first step.
When we learned to walk, they could not wait for us to go to school.
When we graduated, they could not wait for us to walk down the aisle.
When we get married, they could not wait for us to have babies.
So, after we have babies, will they wait for us to die?
Why are we racing? What are we racing for?
Why do we want to win? Why does it seem like people expect others to follow a set life plan.
It seems to me that everyone wants to do everything fast.
We need to be first.
We need to be fast.
We need to be furiously going after our goals.
Goals that was created by the society for us.
But why?
What are we racing for? Is life really about being the first?
Will the honor go to the first one to get married among your friends?
Will an award be given to the first one who will have a baby in the family?
So will the honor go to the first one who dies?
I believe that life should be enjoyed. It does not matter at all if you are already 40 years old when you found your true love. What matters is that he/she is the right person. It does not matter if it takes you a little bit longer to graduate as you analyze what it is that you really want in life. It does not matter if you will have a baby early, late, or never at all.
Life should not be like an Amazing Race episode – running, barely breathing just to get to the destination ahead of others.
Life is meant to be enjoyed. Life means stopping every once in a while to help others, to rest, to stay in bed as long as you want to. Life means enjoying every moment of it.
It really does not matter how fast we go.
What matters is where we are going.
